To Zurich-based singer/songwriter Jamila, making space for vulnerability and self-reflection is the whole point of songwriting. She became interested in music at a young age but for a long time she found it difficult to imagine her songs living anywhere else other than in the safe space of her bedroom. It was only recently that she found the courage to invite others in and share her music, bringing listeners through the ins and outs of becoming an adult, anxiety and heartbreak. Drawing inspiration from female artists such as Taylor Swift and Lorde, Jamila writes synth-pop songs that are made to cry, scream and dance to. Jamila’s debut-ep ‘Fadeout’ is out on August 25th via Young and Aspiring.
