London based Basel singer and guitarist Emilia Anastazja just released her new single “Take a Look” via Young and Aspiring. The new single stands as the first music to be heard since her 2019 self-produced debut album “Blue”.
An effervescent, clubby hybrid straddling the line between 2000’s R&B and quirky electro-pop, “Take a Look” was co-produced with Swiss producer Rico Baumann,  and lyrically dissects the sincerity and curiosity we tend to lose over the course of our lives; an ode to childhood nostalgia/childhood memories.
With influences ranging from Mary J. Blige and Whitney Houston to 070 Shake and Jessie Ware, those sonic touchpoints can be distinctly heard amidst the disco/soul-tinged instrumentation and Emilia’s soulful, powerhouse vocal.
Commenting on the release of “Take a Look”, she said: “It was the middle of last year when I finished writing the song. I felt bad about all the stuff that was going on at the time and just wrote what came into my mind. In the end it’s somehow from a naive and childish perspective on just being lost and trying to find a way back to something meaningful and real.”
Born into a musical family; her mother a concert violinist and her sister a singer, Emilia’s love for music started from a young age. Now a classically trained musician and guitarist herself, she surrounded herself with jazz music, quickly developing a passion for R&B and soul – all helping form the artist she is today.
Her songs and collaborations to date have earned her encouraging success in recent years, notably airplay on BBC Radio 1Xtra and BBC 6Music, along with millions of streams on Spotify.
New EP ‘Flower House’ due for release on 3rd December via Young and Aspiring.
